Initiated in 2013, Biswa Bangla Sharad Samman (BBSS) is an event to recognise and appreciate the brilliance and innovation in organising Durga Puja. It is a unique event which attracts local, national and international participation in an immensely healthy competition for excellence. This grand initiative involves Baroari (Community) pujas from Kolkata, districts of West Bengal, other states of India and even from foreign countries to participate and get honoured for their innovative ideas about idols, pandals, ambience, artistry and environment.
Inspired by Honourable Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the Information and Cultural Affairs Department of Government of West Bengal organises the event to nominate and reward the best pujas, throughout the world, thereby highlighting the core concept of Biswa Bangla. By encouraging creativity and aesthetics and larger participation in this greatest festivity BBSS showcases and boosts our traditional cultural values to the reach of an international audience.
For Pujas in Kolkata, there are 11 award categories and for Pujas in rest of Bengal there are three categories for each district. Apart from this, the best pujas from rest of India and also rest of World are awarded by BBSS. Applications for participation in this award have to comply with rules and regulations as prescribed by different statutory authorities and they are judged in complete transparency.
As we all know, an occasion like Durga Puja has very few equals; therefore, Biswa Bangla Sharad Samman is YOUR OPPURTUNITY to take part in this most noteworthy celebration of the world.
